Description
First edition of Sefer ha-Terumah by R. Baruch ben Yitzchak of Worms (d. 1211), one of the important halakhic works of the Tosafist period. The book covers a broad practical range – shechitah, kashrut, challah, niddah, divorce, chalitzah, avodah zarah, wine of non-Jews, Torah scrolls, tefillin, Shabbat and related subjects – and was counted among the foundational halakhic works of Ashkenazic learning.
This copy is more than a clean Bomberg first edition: it preserves numerous early textual marginalia supplying variant readings. Such notes are precisely the kind of readerly intervention that make an individual copy matter. They suggest that an early owner compared the text against another exemplar or textual tradition and used the printed book as a working halakhic text rather than a static printed object.
