Auction 1 - Rare Hebrew Books, Manuscripts & Rabbinic Letters
Lot 26:
Description
First edition of Yavin Shemu’ah by R. Shlomo Algazi (c. 1610-c. 1683), printed during the author’s lifetime. The work is built around Halichot Olam by R. Yeshuah b. Yosef HaLevi of Tlemcen, together with R. Yosef Karo’s Kelale HaGemara, forming a compact handbook of Talmudic methodology. In the printed layout, Halichot Olam stands at the center of the page, flanked by the methodological glosses and commentaries.
This copy is notable for retaining its original wooden boards covered in leather, with two leather fore-edge clasps and metal catches. Numerous learned manuscript glosses appear throughout. The final leaf before the indexes bears the blue-ink inscription: ‘From the library of Rabbi Daivd Daivdson’ [sic].
Copy: 129 leaves followed by 16 leaves of indexes, as published. Original wooden boards overlaid in leather, retaining clasps; text block reattached. Very good condition, nice clean copy
